The Ger\u00adman start-up JeNa\u00adCell<\/a> was voted \u201cSci\u00adence Start-up of the Year 2017\u201d in Berlin. With its prod\u00aduct, a wound dress\u00ading based on pure cel\u00adlu\u00adlose, large burn wounds can be treated quickly and pain\u00adlessly for the first time. Unlike con\u00adven\u00adtional plas\u00adters, it is a moist, semi-trans\u00adpar\u00adent and fully bio\u00adlog\u00adi\u00adcal mate\u00adr\u00adial that does not stick to the wound. The nanocel\u00adlu\u00adlose cul\u00adti\u00advated from bac\u00adte\u00adria is also used in beauty med\u00adi\u00adcine to smooth wrinkles.<\/p>\n

\u201cJeNa\u00adCell con\u00advinced the jury with its highly inno\u00adv\u00ada\u00adtive prod\u00aduct, as it is of great impor\u00adtance espe\u00adcially in the med\u00adical field, Ger\u00admany has about 30,000 burn vic\u00adtims per year, many of them chil\u00addren. Here, the pain\u00adless and rapid treat\u00adment with Jena\u00adcel\u00adl\u2019s wound patch rep\u00adre\u00adsents enor\u00admous progress,\u201d said Dr. Ste\u00adfan von Holtzbrinck, Man\u00adag\u00ading Direc\u00adtor of Holtzbrinck Pub\u00adlish\u00ading Group and Chair\u00adman of the Falling Walls Ven\u00adture jury, explain\u00ading the deci\u00adsion in favour of the start-up from Jena.
\nA total of 24 sci\u00adence-based start-ups from around the world were invited to present their busi\u00adness ideas at Falling Walls Ven\u00adture in Berlin. The com\u00adpa\u00adnies came from Canada, Ukraine, Saudi Ara\u00adbia, Aus\u00adtria, Great Britain, the USA and Ger\u00admany, among oth\u00aders. Each com\u00adpany had five min\u00adutes to con\u00advince the inter\u00adna\u00adtional jurors from busi\u00adness, acad\u00ade\u00admia and the media of their busi\u00adness model.
\nThe 24 Falling Walls Ven\u00adture final\u00adists were nom\u00adi\u00adnated by lead\u00ading uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adties and ven\u00adture cap\u00adi\u00adtal com\u00adpa\u00adnies: among oth\u00aders, King Abdul\u00adlah Uni\u00adver\u00adsity of Sci\u00adence and Tech\u00adnol\u00adogy, the Uni\u00adver\u00adsity of Cam\u00adbridge, Evonik Indus\u00adtries or the Royal Acad\u00ademy of Engi\u00adneer\u00ading Lon\u00addon send their best sci\u00adence-based start-up into the race for the title Falling Walls Sci\u00adence Start-Up 2017. In 2017, both New York Uni\u00adver\u00adsity and Tohoku Uni\u00adver\u00adsity in Sendai, Japan, organ\u00adised a pre\u00adlim\u00adi\u00adnary com\u00adpe\u00adti\u00adtion and sent their win\u00adner to Berlin.
