bm\u2011t beteili\u00adgungs\u00adman\u00adage\u00adment th\u00fcrin\u00adgen GmbH<\/a> and TGFS Tech\u00adnolo\u00adgiegr\u00fcn\u00adder\u00adfonds Sach\u00adsen<\/a>, together with pri\u00advate investors and the founder, have invested a seven-fig\u00adure sum in the Saxon-Thuringian life sci\u00adence com\u00adpany Bio\u00adPlanta as part of seed financ\u00ading. Hav\u00ading reached this impor\u00adtant mile\u00adstone, the com\u00adpany has now changed its name to BION\u00adCaRT GmbH. BION\u00adCaRT has devel\u00adoped the prod\u00aduct Mesem\u00adCart, an allo\u00adgeneic cell ther\u00adapy (ATMP) that uses stem cells from umbil\u00adi\u00adcal cord tis\u00adsue to treat acute or chronic car\u00adti\u00adlage dam\u00adage in the knee joint.<\/p>\n

With the new fund\u00ading, BION\u00adCaRT plans to con\u00adduct the clin\u00adi\u00adcal trial of the first allo\u00adgeneic cell ther\u00adapy based on human mes\u00adenchy\u00admal stro\u00admal cells in Europe for the described indi\u00adca\u00adtion and to pre\u00adpare the mar\u00adket launch of the prod\u00aduct in Ger\u00admany and Europe.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur vision is to be able to offer all patients an imme\u00addi\u00adate and cost-effec\u00adtive stem cell ther\u00ada\u00adpeu\u00adtic for car\u00adti\u00adlage regen\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion, ini\u00adtially in the knee and then also in other joints and for the treat\u00adment of osteoarthri\u00adtis. Over the next three years, clin\u00adi\u00adcal tri\u00adals (phase I\/IIa) will be con\u00adducted to prove the safety of the ATMP and con\u00adfirm the results from the proof of con\u00adcept<\/em>.
\nIn par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar, the focus will be on sig\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcantly reduc\u00ading pain and improv\u00ading patients\u2019 qual\u00adity of life. Fur\u00adther treat\u00adment goals are the com\u00adplete inte\u00adgra\u00adtion of the cell-laden matrix and the for\u00adma\u00adtion of new hya\u00adline car\u00adti\u00adlage. BION\u00adCaRT is coop\u00ader\u00adat\u00ading with the Fraun\u00adhofer Insti\u00adtute for Cell Ther\u00adapy and Immunol\u00adogy in Leipzig and the Uni\u00adver\u00adsity Cen\u00adter for Orthopaedics, Trauma and Plas\u00adtic Surgery at TU Dres\u00adden and the Coor\u00addi\u00adna\u00adtion Cen\u00adter for Clin\u00adi\u00adcal Stud\u00adies at TU Dres\u00adden. As soon as the first results of the phase I\/IIa study are avail\u00adable, national approval of Mesem\u00adCart will be applied for. The mar\u00adket launch of the ther\u00ada\u00adpeu\u00adtic agent in Ger\u00admany is sched\u00aduled to begin in 2027. Com\u00admer\u00adcial\u00adiza\u00adtion of the prod\u00aduct through\u00adout Europe will begin after com\u00adple\u00adtion of the Phase III clin\u00adi\u00adcal trial and Euro\u00adpean mar\u00adket approval in 2030.<\/p>\n
